15 Aug Roblox is no longer just a “gaming platform” — it’s positioning itself as an IP operations hub
Roblox has officially launched its Creator IP Program. They signed licensing agreements with companies that would enable creators to utilize names and characters in games, TV shows, films, and other media. These creators can then use the IP to build official games, virtual experiences, or digital items. Big names like Netflix, SEGA, and Lionsgate have already joined. This move shows that Roblox is no longer just a tool for teenagers—it is growing into a full platform where content, business, and creativity come together.
For companies, this is not only about using new technology, but also about finding new business opportunities.
The biggest benefit for brands is that they can now join the metaverse with a very low starting cost. Thanks to the licensing model, companies don’t need to build their own game teams. They only need to share their ideas or brand assets, and then work with Roblox creators to make exciting digital content. For example, a food brand can create a virtual restaurant, a fashion brand can do an online fashion show, and an education company can build quiz-style games. These activities are all interactive and help spread the brand in a fun and engaging way, which is more effective than traditional ads—especially when trying to reach Gen Z users.
Also, brands can make money by selling digital goods through Roblox’s economy. Once IP is licensed, it can be used to create items like outfits, tools, or game passes. These can be sold on the platform, with profits shared between Roblox, the creators, and the brands. This kind of business—no physical inventory, high profit margins, and easy to grow—is especially helpful for small and medium businesses.
Even if your company is not as big as Netflix, you can still build your presence on Roblox and connect with younger users.

As Roblox grows and offers new chances to make content, companies should not ask, “Should we join?” but instead ask, “How can we test it with the smallest cost?” This new IP program is not only a chance for big names, but also a starting point for any brand that wants to share its story, connect with culture, and use fresh, imaginative methods to connect with young audiences.
