Janet Lim is a Registered Patent Agent and Registered Trade Mark Agent with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), an agency under the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co- operatives and Consumerism. This certification as a Patent Agent enables her to assist inventors in Patent applications at MyIPO whilst the certification as a Registered Trade Mark Agent enables her to assist clients in Trade Mark applications and to conduct searches at MyIPO.
In the field of patent, Janet has many years of experience in advising inventors on protection of their innovations and creations. She is also an experienced and able drafter and has drafted numerous patent specifications, many of which have been accorded grant of patent by the relevant body in Malaysia as well as in other countries. She has drafted patent specifications for government agencies such as MIMOS, higher learning institutions such as Universiti Teknologi Petronas, multinational companies such as Renesas Semiconductor Design (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd; public listed companies such as Vitrox Corporation Berhad and Spritzer Group to name a few and numerous small medium industries and enterprises.
To improve her drafting skills and to keep abreast of the developments in intellectual property, she has attended various seminars, training and workshops such as JPO/IPR Training Course for Advanced IP Practitioners under the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarships (AOTS) organized by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII); Patent Drafting Course and Patent Practice in Malaysia both organized by Malaysian Intellectual Property Association (MIPA); Recent Developments in IP-The Impact on Developing Economies Conference organized by IP Division, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Malaysia, MIPA and Asian Patent Attorneys Association Malaysia; WIPO National Seminar on Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) organized by World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO), IPR Conference (Protecting Inventions Related to Computer Software) jointly organized by Japan Patent Office (JPO) and MyIPO Multimedia Development Corporation (MdeC), Intellectual Property Alumni Association of M’sia (IPAAM), and “Seminar Kesedaran Dan Perlindungan harta Intelek” organized by Institut Tadbiran Awam Negara (INTAN)
Janet graduated with LLB (Hons) in 1996. By virtue of her legal training, she is able to fully comprehend the provisions of the Malaysian Patents Act 1983 and Regulations and draft patent specifications with the provisions and regulations in mind. She is also able to provide added service, on a case to case basis, in advising on the legal aspects of infringement and hence assists clients in making an informed decision on whether to proceed to file the patent or not.
