An assignment of patent usually occurs when there is a change to an Organization in terms of its name and / or new incorporation, or any kind of changes to the ownership of the patent. Basically, it is a transfer of your Intellectual Property rights from one owner to another. An assignment of invention needs to be drafted, approved and sent to MyIPO for recordal so that MyIPO can issue a certificate of recordal of assignment for the owner’s record.
Patent Assignment
Upon obtaining the application number, the applicant may opt to go for licensing means to promote or expand their claimed invention with the use of the patent application number. For more information, please refer to ‘Licensing’.
Duration:
An assignment of the invention usually takes 1 – 2 weeks to draft.
Requirement:
Company form and details of both the assignor and assignee.
