Office action normally occurs when the Registrar is of the view that the applicant’s patent specification is within the claims of another prior patent application and/or not in line with the patentability requirements of the Patents Act. The Registrar will send a Substantive Examination Adverse Report containing information on the office action and provides opportunities for the applicant to respond.
